Abstract

Purpose: to present a scoping review protocol to identify the prescription parameters for the use of stimulating palatal plates and their outcomes in children with trisomy 21.

Methods: the study’s research question is, "With what intervention mechanisms (age at therapy initiation, duration, frequency, time of use, co-interventions, and plate characteristics) does the stimulating palatal plate produce satisfactory outcomes in children with T21?" The search will be conducted in seven electronic databases and gray literature, and the review will include original articles, theses, dissertations, books, and book chapters that address therapy with a stimulating palatal plate as a form of treatment for children with trisomy 21, with no limitations on language or year of publication. The material will be analyzed by eliminating duplicates, reading titles and abstracts, reading the full text, and collecting information based on a specific protocol. A protocol will be developed based on summarized information to prescribe parameters for the indication of the stimulating palatal plate for children with trisomy 21.

Final Considerations: the planned review is expected to guide multidisciplinary teams regarding the prescription of the stimulating palatal plate for each age, considering the desired outcomes and possible difficulties with treatment.
