Abstract

Purpose: to gather information about the vocal profile of amateur choir singers, investigating symptoms, habits, feelings and postures concerning singing and speaking voice.

Methods: vocal health questionnaires from 124 amateur choir singers were analyzed.

Results: the findings pointed a bigger number of multiple vocal symptoms in the singing voice when compared to the number of symptoms in the speaking voice. There was a statistically significant association between symptoms, habits and feelings of speaking and singing voice regarding the number of vocal symptoms found in the speaking and singing voice.

Conclusion: the findings concerning the vocal profile of amateur choir singers indicate that there is an association between aspects of speaking and singing voice, so a detailed investigation of both vocal production patterns is needed in order to guarantee a global vision of aspects that can influence the vocal quality of people who practice amateur choral singing.
